The Lord is Good
Our lives on earth are extremely blessed by God. Every day is simply another reminder of God’s care and concern for His creation and His faithful servants. He continually showers blessings upon those who seek His will and gives to each man the sustenance necessary for life. When man “tries” to take God out of this world, he does so without fully realizing his dependence upon God. Jesus spoke of this dependence in the Sermon on the Mount – “45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45; emphasis mine, bcj). While the world may have difficulty in acknowledging God as part of their lives, may the same never be said concerning us. We must always be faithful to our Father by freely admitting that – The Lord is good!
Our lives on earth can at times be summarized by this one word – GOOD. Our lives are GOOD, because we watch our children grow and mature into the youth of tomorrow. Our lives are GOOD, because we have experienced the power of prayer and the healing of the sick. Our lives are GOOD, because we are able to join around the tables of our homes and spend time with our family, friends, and brethren. Our lives are GOOD, because we are joined together in worship to honor our eternal Father. Life is GOOD, because our Savior gave His life, so that we could have life in His name. Our lives are GOOD, because – The Lord is good!
While we may recount the many blessings in our lives that makes everything seem good, we need to remember that even on the most difficult day the saying remains true – The Lord is good! When our lives are met with trials, pain, anguish, loss, and turmoil – The Lord is good! When we feel as if we have lost everything and have no direction in our lives – The Lord is good! When we are diagnosed with terminal cancer and given only months to live – The Lord is good! When our brothers and sisters in Christ go home to be with the Lord – The Lord is good! When our children become older and leave home – The Lord is good! The saddest of days can always be brightened by the thought and presence of mind – The Lord is good!
When the world wants to blame God for their misgivings and difficulties, may we be faithful to the Lord and His ever present goodness. This world is passing away and all who love it will pass away too, but those who do the will of the Father will live eternally. In the storms of life, what separates the Christian from the world is our foundation and the One in whom we stand. The Christian stands despite calamity, because our lives are focused on the better country beyond this world and all its strife. The Christian is reminded by our brother Paul – “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us” (Romans 8:18). The world will weigh heavily upon us at times, but let us be steadfast, always looking to God for relief.
This world wants to portray life as a fairy-tale with everyone having their own happily-ever-after, but we know this is not the truth. While life is not promised to be easy, we will still experience many good days. During those good days, we must be mindful of God’s blessings and humble ourselves in gratitude for God’s wonderful care. Then in the darkness of the night, and when everything seems bleak, we must remind ourselves constantly – The Lord is good! Thank you Father for blessing us! Thank you for Your direction and guidance in the midst of our trials! Thank you! May God bless us in our daily efforts to serve Him diligently and despite the trial remain faithful to His cause.
